Matching Tattoos

24 Aug

My husband and I have matching tattoos. Well, kinda. We both have a pair of linked horseshoes inked on our upper arms. Evan’s are in color, mine are in black and gray. Both are the work of Portland artist Roll Hardy.

Evan’s set is on the inner part of his right arm. The part of his arm that gets exposed when he leans back on the legs of a chair and laces his fingers behind his head. The part of his body I get tucked into at night. The colors are vibrant, purple and golden horseshoes resting below a red heart, with a banner, roses, and flames. This tattoo is slowly being worked into Evan’s only other tattoo which is on his shoulder. Leave it to Evan to go 25 years without a single tattoo and then immediately opt for a 1/4 sleeve. If he decides he’s going to do something, he’s going to do it 100%.

While the design of our tattoos are very different the reason for their application remains the same. The significance behind these horseshoes relates back to some sentimental details from our wedding and I suppose our commitment to being linked together for life.

However, I got a laugh when we were recently catering a horseshoes tournament for some friends this past weekend who, after seeing our tattoos, blatantly accused us of being horseshoe “sharks.” (I wish!)

I have always loved both of your tattoo choices, and more seriously, the fact that you two are one of less than five couples who I know that have unique yet complementary interests and are serious about making cool shit happen all the time. You guys rule, and the tattoos are just icing on the cake.
