Digging for Carrots!

26 Sep

Yesterday my mom and I spent some time volunteering at the 78th Street Heritage Farm in Vancouver, Washington. We spent our afternoon digging, topping, washing and eventually crating carrots during a Fields of Plenty “Dig in” work party.

The Fields of Plenty program relies on local farmers and landowners along with enthusiastic volunteer crews to plant, maintain, and harvest fresh fruits and vegetables throughout the year. All of the produce goes directly into the emergency food system via the Clark County Food Bank and its local partners to help supplement the dried and packaged foods normally donated to the food bank.

This was an awesome event to be a part of. We had a ton of fun, met some new friends, and found a great community outreach program that deals with issues close to my heart. Many thanks to Sally, Bill and Jan for leading yesterday’s event. We look forward to joining you for future harvests.

If you would like to learn more about volunteering for the Fields of Plenty program or participating in a Dig In, please email Maika at ccfb.FieldsOfPlenty@gmail.com. You may also contact Bill Coleman at bill.coleman1@comcast.net  or 360.798.0489. Bill is not only a dedicated member of the Clark County Food Bank’s Board of Directors, he’s a veteran of the carrot patch, overseeing three successful growing seasons.

These pictures are great! Would it be okay for us to use them ever?
